Today after SSR, we reviewed and discussed the sample essay from Monday, looking carefully at how to use embedded quotes, block quotes, and paraphrases.  Then we read the essay again and looked at its structure, particularly how the thesis sentence frames the rest of the essay and how the topic sentences in each body paragraph are connected to the thesis statement.  Then we read another sample essay and discussed its shortcomings and how to revise it.  Students will need to see me for this make-up work.
