Today, after SSR, students chose roles to read in class and we began reading Romeo and Juliet. I handed out the reading calendar and homework questions. I also handed out a summary of each act of the play.
Due Date: For Friday, May 24: Read Act I, scenes 1, 2, and 3 (pages 901-918) and complete Act I, scenes 1, 2, and 3 homework questions.
On Monday, May 20, we shared the Prologue translations and I stamped this homework. Then we discussed these translations and then I taught students about iambic pentameter and the poetic form of the sonnet (which the Prologue follows.) Then we got acquainted with the list of characters in the play.
On Friday, May 17, we got started on Romeo and Juliet. Students had a discussion about different social offenses that are featured in the play, then they created Shakespearean Insults and performed them in class, and then we did an exercise on reading the Prologue. The homework was to translate the Prologue into everyday language, due Monday, May 20.
